As a member of the 339 Manumissions and Beyond Project, I find it refreshing to see continued work on uncovering the enslaved by institutional religious groups. The Catholic Diocese presented their Second Annual CROSS(Catholic Religious Organizations Studying Slavery) Conference at Georgetown University,Catholic Archives and Slavery: Research, Collaboration, and Hope. This conference delves into the ties to slavery, those enslaved by Jesuits, and who additionally worked hard to build Georgetown University.
Lastly, something that we at 339 Manumssions feel strongly about are the descendants. Below, fellow descendant Patricia Bayonne-Johnson is being honored by another GU272 descendant.
